A S.C. judge's ruling will allow Abbie Dorn's 4-year-old triplets to visit her until a trial date determining permanent visitation is set. Roosevelt's Quota (Powerlineblog.com)

(John) I've always wondered why so many liberal Jews are comfortable with racial quotas, given that historically, quotas have worked against Jews more than any other group. Roger Simon exposes a shocking instance from World War II. President Roosevelt, meeting in Casablanca in 1943, suggested a quota system for Jews in North Africa: > The number of Jews engaged in the practice of the professions (law, medicine, etc) should be definitely limited to the percentage that the Jewish population in North Africa bears to the whole of the North African population...The President stated that his plan would further eliminate the specific and understandable complaints which the Germans bore toward the Jews in Germany, namely, that while they represented a small part of the population, over fifty percent of the lawyers, doctors, school teachers, college professors, etc., in Germany, were Jews. "Understandable," indeed. Ed Koch notes that the source for the Roosevelt quote is unimpeachable: "the transcript appears in Foreign Relations of the United States, a multivolume series of historical documents published by the U.S. government itself." Roosevelt's suggestion was never adopted, not because local rulers were tolerant, but because they preferred the more extreme measure of driving virtually all Jews ...

Wisconsin GOP Abuses Open Records Act to Intimidate UW-Madison Professor (Littlegreenfootballs.com)

In a thuggish attempt at intimidation, the Wisconsin Republican Party has launched a legal effort to gain access to all of the emails written by UW- Madison history professor William Cronon, after he wrote a blog post titled "Who's Really Behind Recent Republican Legislation in Wisconsin and Elsewhere?" and an op-ed for the New York Times. Cronon has a detailed and passionate response to the Wisconsin GOP's attempt to silence him: Abusing Open Records to Attack Academic Freedom. This isn't the first time Republicans have abused their power in order to bully and intimidate academics or scientists; similar tactics have been used against climate scientist Michael Mann, to try to discredit his work on climate change. Maine Takes Down Labor Mural

Labor leaders in Maine are outraged over a decision by Republican Gov. Paul LePage and his new administration to remove a 35-foot mural from the Maine Department of Labor. The mural depicts scenes from Maine's labor history, including a strike at a shoe factory and a paper mill as well as Rosie the Riveter. A spokeswoman for the governor says all departments in state government need to make all people feel welcome ? and the mural does not do that.
